Moments and Absolute Moments of the Normal Distribution
We present formulas for the (raw and central) moments and absolute moments of the normal distribution. We note that these results are not new, yet many textbooks miss out on at least some of them. Hence, we believe that it is worthwhile to collect these formulas and their derivations in these notes.
متن کاملEstimation of moments and quantiles using censored data
Censored data sets are often encountered in water quality investigations and streamflow analyses. A Monte Carlo analysis examined the performance of three techniques for estimating the moments and quantiles of a distribution using censored data sets. These techniques include a lognormal maximum likelihood estimator (MLE), a logprobability plot regression estimator, and a new log-partial probabi...
متن کاملSOME RESULTS OF MOMENTS OF UNCERTAIN RANDOM VARIABLES
Chance theory is a mathematical methodology for dealing with indeterminatephenomena including uncertainty and randomness.Consequently, uncertain random variable is developed to describe the phenomena which involveuncertainty and randomness. Thus, uncertain random variable is a fundamental concept in chance theory. This paper provides some practical quantities to describe uncertain random variable...
متن کاملA direct calculation of moments of the sample variance
A systematic method to deal with the interrelations of systems with multi-index quantities (random variables) is proposed. The method differs of the well-known Polykays. An application of the theoretical results here presented is the calculation of the moments of the sample variance for general populations in a direct way. The main advantage of the proposed methodology is that no conversion for...
متن کاملPredictors of Failure Times of Censored Units in Progressively Censored Samples from Normal Distribution
In this article, we consider the problem of predicting times to failure of units censored in multiple stages in a progressively censored sample from normal distribution. The best linear unbiased predictor (BLUP), the maximum likelihood predictor (MLP), a modified maximum likelihood predictor (MMLP), an approximate maximum likelihood predictor (AMLP), and the conditional median predictor (CMP) a...
